2009 Tournament Raises $74K!
The Fran Delaney Foundation's ninth annual golf tournament was held in August 2009 at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, NH. It was a very warm day and we were all glad to retire to the clubhouse, where it was announced that the tournament had raised $74k for ALS research, with an additional generous grant of computer hardware from our long-time sponsor, TotalTec! In this economy, these results are a tremendous success.
Lou Kobbs and his army of volunteers, including Andrea Starr, Michelle and Don LaBelle, Kathy Fradette, Tim Hines, Jim Malanson, Peg O'Brien, Jay Perry, Rodney Thomas, John McDonald, Jessica Mandarini-Ryan, Lenny Baptiste, Troy and Robyn Harney, Charlie Meeker, Cheri Wesinger, Sharon Guadagno, Gail Hall, Gloria MacVane, John Chirichiello, Kathy Kimball and many more, were overwhelmed by the response from our tournament participants. There are so many golfers who have been with us year after year and also many who are new to our cause, having jumped in to do 'whatever it takes' to join the fight against ALS.
We did have a 'first' this year......a hole-in-one was scored by Roy Simpsonon on the 11th hole. He won a 5 day/4 night golf vacation package for two at The Palms Resort in Las Vegas as well as a new Cleveland driver for his efforts......all generously sponsored by our friends at George Grey's Lexington Toyota and the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
Fundraising events such as this golf tournament are a vital key to scientific research. Researchers can use these funds to explore areas of promise in the search for a cure. As the Day Neuromuscular Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, has said, "The funding from the Fran Delaney Foundation is the source of our most creative and experimental work.” We have directed the proceeds of this year's Fran Delaney Foundation golf tournament to the scientists who are leading the search for a cure, Massachusetts General Hospital Day Neuromuscular Lab, Johns Hopkins Packard Center for ALS Research and the ALS Therapy Development Institute in Cambridge, MA.
On behalf of our all-volunteer Fran Delaney Foundation Team, we want to thank all who supported our Tournament. To our golfers, our sponsors and everyone who was there with us and played a part in keeping Fran's memory alive, thank you!
Mark your calendars now for this year's Tournament to be held August 16, 2010.
